Crandall Burn To Ignite

Sonora, CA — Motorists and residents may soon see smoke billowing in the skies over the Mi-Wok Ranger District of the Stanislaus National Forest.

Fire crews plan to ignite the Crandall Prescribed Fire sometime this month.  An exact date will be up to Mother Nature, according to forest officials, as the flames will only be sparked weather permitting.

The plan is to burn 50-acre blocks from now until the spring.  A total of 120 acres will be set on fire in the I-Bar area near Township 3N, Range 16E, and Sections 29.  Another 30 acres will be ignited off Italian Bar Road (Forest Road 2N63) bringing the total to 150.

Smoke may be visible from Highway 108 and in the surrounding communities.  Forest officials ask that the public not report the smoke as a wildland fire.  For specific burn locations, click here.
