Sonora, CA – The Sonora High School varsity girls’ volleyball, which spiked a huge win last night at home against Escalon, is now within one win of scoring its second straight Division-IV Sac-Joaquin Section title.
The Mother Lode League Champion, top-ranked Wildcats soundly defeated the fourth-seeded Escalon Cougars 3-0 (52-17, 25-3, 25-21).
Principal Patrick Chabot says, “We are really proud of our girls. They are doing so good in the playoffs…we are looking forward to playing against Hilmar on Friday at UC-Davis, at 8 o’clock.”
He waxes optimistic, “When we win, I think there’s eight volleyball teams in the tournament…if we win, we’ll be playing at home the following Tuesday…if we lose, we will probably be playing away, because each section gets to send two teams to the NorCal playoffs.”
Last year, the Wildcats came within a game of capturing the NorCal championship and a state title berth before they narrowly lost to the top-seeded Menlo Knights in a five-set thriller.
