Sonora, CA — School enrollment in Tuolumne County has been in a downward trend since 1997.
When you include charter schools, Tuolumne County’s enrollment for the current school year is 6,132, compared to 6,236 in 2013-14, and 6,245 in 2012/13.
The numbers were compiled by the Tuolumne County Superintendent of Schools Office. Tuolumne County’s school enrollment peaked during the 1997-98 school year, with 8,220 students, but the numbers have been generally declining ever since.
Based on current trends, the California Department of Finance recently compiled school enrollment projections for the next decade. The state is anticipating that Tuolumne County’s school population will continue to gradually decline, and be at 5,972 by the 2023-2024 school year.
