Rollover Crash Victim ID’d

Sonora, CA — Sonora CHP has released the identity and more details about a solo vehicle rollover injury crash early Saturday reported on myMotherlode.com, near Soulsbyville along Hwy 108.

According to the CHP report, 71-year-old Jerrell Calvin Sims, of Mi Wuk Village, sustained major injuries, including a brain bleed and collapsed right lung as a result of the accident, and was initially taken to Sonora Regional Medical Center for treatment. CHP stated that it was around 7:50 a.m. while driving a 2001 Subaru westbound on Hwy 108 that Sims allowed his vehicle to veer onto the shoulder. He was driving at an unknown speed. Attempting to bring the vehicle back onto the road, the CHP reports he apparently over-steered and lost control. The Subaru then crossed through the median. After colliding with vegetation on the elevated embankment, car and driver overturned several times, finally landing upside down in the center median.

Sims was wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident.
