Northerly winds will increase Thursday as a cold system approaches Northern California.
Precipitation will start in far Northern California early Friday and spread south through the day. The heaviest rain and snow is expected late Friday into Saturday.
Locally heavy rain and hail from thunderstorms both Friday and Saturday afternoons may cause travel delays in the Mother Lode and the Central Valley.
Snow levels will begin around 5500 feet on Friday and should lower to around 3500 ft by Saturday. Moderate snow accumulation is likely above 5500 ft.
Precipitation will linger across the region on Sunday as the system moves out of the area.
According to the National Weather Service, another system may bring more showers early next week.
