Sonora, CA – Stormy weather heading into the Mother Lode will keep Highway 108 Sonora Pass and Highway 4 Ebbetts Pass closed for the weekend. Caltrans spokesperson Rick Estrada says, “There is no anticipation time of opening yet as that will depend on how the storm comes through, how much snow it drops, and if there are any road repairs that will have to be made.”
As reported on Wednesday, both passes closed that day due to the inclement weather, which included snowfall over the mountain passes. Ebbetts Pass was shut down around 2 p.m. after reports of cars sliding on the slick roadways, followed by Sonora Pass at 5 p.m. It was only last week that both roadway summits were reopened after Caltrans announced an early end to the winter closure.
Highway 120 Tioga Pass has not yet reopened, as Yosemite National Park officials say road crews are still clearing debris and completing necessary repairs, ahead of a tentative opening by Memorial Day Weekend.
