Cables Up Early

Yosemite, CA – Hikers who may have missed the lottery in March for a run at the Half Dome Cables will get a second chance.

This Saturday hikers can climb the Half Dome Cables in Yosemite National Park.  The opening is three weeks early a result of the low snowpack. The regular season was set to begin on May 23. To be able to use the cables from May 2 to 22 a permit will still be needed. Day hikers must apply via online lottery two days in advance for the permit. The lottery will be open from noon to 1 p.m. (PDT) each day with the results given the next day at 6 a.m.  Hikers planning overnight trips will need a wilderness permit to ascend Half Dome.  Click here for more information regarding those types of permits.

Additionally, starting May 21, the same two-day advanced lottery system will be used to hand out nearly 50 permits will be handed out per day.  For information on all daytime cable permits, click here or call 877-444-6777.
