Copperopolis, CA — CAL Fire reports that a vegetation fire in Copperopolis yesterday was sparked by a riding lawn mower.
It ignited at around 5:30pm in the 7000 block of Tapadero Street. Resources responded from other surrounding communities such as San Andreas, Standard, Altaville, Columbia, Valley Springs, Murphys, Esperanza and Vallecito. The fire burned 4 1/2 acres before it was fully contained. No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported. CAL Fire Spokesperson Lisa Williams recommends that residents wait until after 7pm to mow during this time of year.
CAL Fire also responded to Copperopolis during the noon hour yesterday because of a report of a vegetation fire. The fire in the 2000 block of Little John Road was later determined to be a debris pile ignited by a resident during restricted hours, and the homeowner was educated about burn hour restrictions.
