Update: All Mountain Passes Closing

Update 3:25 p.m.: Caltrans reports Highway 4 Ebbetts Pass to close tomorrow at 9 a.m.

Original Post 12:54 p.m.: The expected rain and snow moving into the region has two of the higher elevation Mountain Passes shutting down.

Caltrans reports Highway 108 Sonora Pass will close today at 4:00 p.m. beginning at Kennedy Meadows.  Yosemite officials will shut down Highway 120 Tioga Pass and Glacier Point Road in the Park at 8:00 p.m.  As for Highway 4 Ebbetts Pass, Caltrans spokesperson Rick Estrada says, “Road crews are assessing the roadway and National Weather Service forecast information and should decide later this afternoon whether Ebbetts will also close.”

There is no estimated time for the roadways to reopen.  It will depend on road conditions after the storm blows through.  Caltrans cautions motorists that weather and road conditions can change rapidly so expect the worst conditions and be prepared when traveling in areas subject to hazardous conditions.
