Sonora, CA – Two projects up for review got the go ahead from the City of Sonora Planning Commission, but one had to make a neighbor’s requested addition.
As previously reported, a fire in January of 2012 burned down a Victorian home-style apartment complex on 489 South Stewart Street. At its meeting this week, the commission approved the site plan and design to rebuild the multi-family structure, parking and garbage facilities. The city is helping to fund the project through a community development block grant, which will provide a low-interest loan to the owner and in turn, he will rent to low-income individuals.
The Commission also approved revisions to the original Site Plan and Design Review for the Sonora Regional Medical Center’s Cancer Center and Outpatient Pavilion on Mono Way at the old Andy’s Hardware site. The revisions include repositioning and slightly downsizing the building to allow for two additional parking spaces.
Both projects will now need to file for the proper permits, according to Kellogg, who says, “I think Sonora Regional Medical Center is looking for a fall start and the apartment should start [construction] before that time.”
