Copperopolis, CA — A Copperopolis man faces drunk driving charges after a late night solo vehicle wreck in Calaveras County.
The accident happened Wednesday at 11:45 p.m. on Copper Cove Drive, between O’Byrnes Ferry Road and Black Creek Drive in Copperopolis. The CHP reports 46-year-old David J. Gomez was driving a 1992 Jeep Wrangler westbound at about 35 mph when he lost control of the vehicle. CHP San Andreas Unit Officer Tobias Butzle says, “Due to his level of intoxication, the Jeep he was driving went off the right side of the roadway, then down an embankment and flipped over. Gomez was arrested at the scene for driving under the influence of alcohol and having a blood alcohol level higher than .08 percent.”
Gomez, who suffered minor injuries in the crash, was taken by ambulance to Mark Twain Medical Center for treatment.
