650 Firefighters Now Battling Fire Near Oakhurst

Oakhurst, CA — The Sky Fire outside of Oakhurst is 30% contained. The incident command team is now estimating that the size is about 500 acres, down from the 538 estimate yesterday. 650 firefighters are assigned to the incident as of this morning. The fire was started by a vehicle on Thursday afternoon. It is burning approximately six miles north of Oakhurst. It continues to cause smoky skies in some neighboring areas of the Mother Lode.

Also of note, there are some small fires, less than an acre, burning in Yosemite National Park. They were caused by lightning strikes during the first and second weeks of June and are being actively monitored by Yosemite Firefighters. They are located near Yosemite Creek, Boundary Creek, Cascade Creek and the High Sierra Camp.
