Sonora, CA — Sonora High School’s Governing Board found out its options to move forward on Measure J Bond Projects while waiting for a ruling on a lawsuit.
The board met with the architects, who offered two options to keep the construction crews working this summer while a demurrer ruling is pending. As reported last month, Judge James Boscoe decided to postpone a decision on the demurrer, taking time to further review the appeal filed by the group Citizen’s Against School Bond Abuse. Sonora High Superintendent Dr. Mike McCoy says the options include both stopping construction and placing a fence around the site or issuing bond money. McCoy explains, “It would be the Series B Bond, probably for eight or nine million dollars and that would enable them [the board] to do the stadium and the cafeteria, and probably half of either the pool or Centennial Hall.”
He added that the cost of the ongoing litigation delay is around $60,000-to-$70,000 and could go higher, if it continues. McCoy says, on a positive note, the Humanities building will be completed next month.
The board also passed the 2015 -16 budget totaling more than $13 million. (For an earlier story detailing more of the budget click here.)
