‘Making Good Progress’ On Washington Fire

Markleeville, CA – CalFire incident command reports the Washington Fire flames are slowing down in term of the fire’s size — but the cost is climbing.

The Alpine County blaze is now 56% contained and grew only an acre overnight but the cost to battle the blaze is up to $9.3 million. The total acreage is 17,787. The incident command team reports fire crews are continuing to work on fire lines on the northern and southern perimeters, while on the eastern and western side mop up and stamping out hot spots are the main goal. Additionally, the number of firefighters has dropped from 1,111 yesterday to 860 today.  Resources on scene include 26 hand crews, 27 engines, 9 water tenders and 7 helicopters.

The Indian Creek Campground reopened this morning as well as Highway 89 Monitor Pass. Highway 4 Ebbetts Pass reopened Sunday.
