County Will Address Proposed Land Transfer

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors will weigh in on whether to support a plan to transfer 80 acres of U.S. Forest Service land into a trust for the Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians.

It’s on the agenda for Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting. The two forty acre parcels are immediately adjacent to the tribe’s Murphy Ranch property, to the east of Tuolumne. The tribe hopes to add the parcels into its existing “Murphy Ranch Conservation Area,” and is not seeking authority to conduct any form of gaming on the property. County documents note that the transfer would require federal legislation, and Congressman Tom McClintock is not inclined to move on the matter unless the county voices support.

Also on Tuesday, the Board will hear an update on the drought, and vote whether to extend the local state of emergency declaration related to water supply. In addition, the Board will hear a presentation on the Amador Tuolumne Community Action Agency 2015 Point In Time Homeless Census. To read an earlier story on the findings, click here.

Tuesday’s meeting starts at 9am in the Board of Supervisors meeting room.

The follow-up on the land transfer is here.
