Fatal Mariposa Hit-And-Run Crash

Mariposa, CA — The CHP reports that a bicyclist was killed in a crash on Highway 49 in Mariposa County.

It happened Sunday afternoon at 12:25pm near French Camp Road. The CHP reports that 72-year-old Wayne H. Ruport of Mariposa was driving a Ford F-150 northbound, and struck a 62-year-old bicyclist from Merced, who was also traveling northbound. The bicyclist died at the scene from injuries sustained in the collision. Ruport drove away from the crash and was later located at his residence on Bear Valley Road. He was determined to be intoxicated at the time of the collision and was subsequently arrested and booked into Mariposa County Jail. Ruport faces charges of felony DUI, felony hit-and-run and manslaughter with gross negligence. The bicyclist has not yet been identified by the CHP as family members are still being notified.
