State And Mother Lode Unemployment Drop

Sacramento, CA — California’s September unemployment rate plunged to its lowest level in nearly eight years and Calaveras County beats the state’s figure.

California’s September unemployment rate plunged to 5.9 percent down two-tenths of a percentage point from August. The Employment Development Department released its monthly report today showing that this is the first time since 2007 that the rate has dipped below 6.0 percent.

The Mother Lode followed the state’s trend, with Calaveras County passing the state’s figures, with 5.6 percent jobless in September from 6.2 percent in August. In Tuolumne County, last month’s rate was 6.0 percent a fall from 6.7 percent in August.

The largest gains were in construction, transportation and government jobs, with the ladder, adding 6,200 positions. The financial industry posted the biggest decrease with 5,900 jobs lost.

The overall number of people unemployed was down by 43,000 since August, standing at 1.1 million. The national rate for September remained at 5.1 percent, which is unchanged from the previous month.
