Names Released In HWY4 Pile-up

Angels Camp, CA – The CHP has released the names of the three people injured in a multiple-vehicle crash on Highway 4 Tuesday afternoon resulting in one person being flown to a Modesto hospital.

The accident happened at 1:20 p.m. on the highway east of Stallion Way in Angels Camp. The collision occurred, as firefighters were directing traffic on the highway around a tow crew, which had been working to pull up a vehicle that sometime on Monday night had gone down an embankment. The CHP reports 61-year-old Holly Impink of Copperopolis driving a 1998 Honda and 72-year-old Michael Bingham of Angles Camp driving a 2013 Ford were stopped on the highway by the flagger. That is when 39-year-old Ancelma Gomez of Murphys driving a 2006 Chevy rear-ended Bingham’s car forcing it into the oncoming traffic lane. Gomez’s car than smashed into the back of Impink’s Honda spinning the car clockwise and Gomez’s car crashed into the side of Impink’s vehicle.

The CHP reports due to Gomez’s inattention she failed to notice the halted traffic. However, neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in the wreck. Gomez suffered major injuries and was flown to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. Impink received moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Mark Twain Medical Center. Bingham suffered minor injuries.

As previously reported, the highway was shut down east of Stallion Way for about an hour as tow crews removed the wreckage.
