Update: Rain And Snow This Sunday and Monday

Another cool, wet system will move through Saturday night through Monday, similar to the last system but a little cooler and not as wet. The main band of snow is expected over the Sierra Nevada mountains Sunday afternoon and night.

Showers will continue into Monday with a chance of thunderstorms, with locally heavy rain, especially over the Sierra Nevada mountains. It is these systems that could produce debris flow if they develop over recently burned areas.

According to the National Weather Service, total rain amounts will range from a a tenth of an inch to half an inch in the valley and up to about one inch over the Sierra Nevada.

Snow levels will drop from 7000 feet Sunday morning to around 6000 feet Sunday evening, then drop down to 4500 feet on Monday.

Total snow accumulation will be less than an inch or two on Sunday afternoon and about three to seven inches from Sunday evening through Monday.

If you are traveling through the Sierra from Sunday afternoon through Monday, carry tire chains and be prepared for possible delays.
