Frogtown’s Leap Into Energy Savings

Angels Camp, CA — Calaveras County Fairgrounds and Jumping Frog Jubilee receives two conservation grants totaling $44,000.

The grants focused on water and power conservation. A $25,000 state Water Conservation Grant awarded to the fairgrounds for its water savings efforts during the drought will fund the replacement of the water closets and other bathroom fixtures, according to CEO-Fair Manager Laurie Giannini. Additionally, a $19,000 Calaveras Public Power Authority grant will go to put up energy efficient lighting in the fairgrounds, barns and parking lot.

Giannini explains, “We had an energy audit done for the barns and the parking lot and through the audit we concluded that if we switched over to this new lighting we would end up saving a lot of energy. The water grant we had to do the same thing to find out our water savings and that was how we were able to get the grants.”

Giannini did not have an exact number or dollar figure for the savings, but noted, “It will be significant.” She adds that the replacement of the several decade old fixtures will begin this year and completed by the spring of 2016.
