Sacramento, CA — Beginning this week, California lawmakers are receiving a larger paycheck.
In May the California Citizens Compensation Commission voted increase the pay of California’s elected officials by 3%, effective December 7. For example, Governor Jerry Brown’s salary is increasing by around $5,000 a year to nearly $182,789, and Senate and Assembly members pay will go up by around $3,000 to $100,111. Following cuts made during the recession, salaries have now increased 7.3% over the past two years. Others receiving the raises include the Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Treasurer, Controller, members of the Board of Equalization and Superintendent of Public Instruction. The panel that decides the salaries of lawmakers was created with a ballot measure that was passed in 1990.
