New Unemployment Figures For Mother Lode

Sonora, CA — California’s unemployment rate dipped last month, but it edged upwards here in the Mother Lode.

The California Employment Development Department reports that state’s rate decreased from 5.8% to 5.7% in November. In Tuolumne County, the rate increased from 6.4% up to 6.5%. In Calaveras County it edged up from an even 6% to 6.1%. Sectors that posted job gains included construction, manufacturing, trade, transportation and tourism. Areas that posted declines were logging and mining, finance and information services. When reviewing the stats from other neighboring counties, Mariposa’s unemployment rate was 7.1%, Amador was 6.2%, Stanislaus was 8.8% and San Joaquin County was 8.6%.

The lowest unemployment rate in California was Marin County at 3.3% and the highest was Imperial County at 20.4%.
