Sacramento, CA — The Secretary of State’s office announces that a ballot measure will go before voters in 2016 related to price controls on prescription drugs.
Secretary of State Alex Padilla’s Office says the proposal would prohibit state agencies from paying more for prescription drugs than the negotiated price that the VA pays. The measure has collected the needed signatures required for placement on the ballot.
The Associated Press reports that supporters say that it would rein in exorbitant prices on hundreds of vital medications. Pharmaceutical companies call the initiative “misleading and flawed.”
It is one of seven ballot measures that have been certified to this point. Others range from repealing the planned plastic bag ban at state grocery stores, to requiring that adult film stars in California wear condoms while filming.
