Mi Wuk Village, CA — Two people were caught while trying to burglarize a home in Mi Wuk Village over the weekend.
The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 21000 block of Wallim Court early Saturday morning. Initially the alarm system went off, and then the homeowners called dispatch to report they were watching the burglary in progress over surveillance cameras. They were able to provide dispatch with a play-by-play as the deputies were responding. The deputies were able to place a perimeter around the home and they contained the suspects inside. With assistance from the Sheriff’s Office K9 Hans, the deputies were able to take the suspects into custody without incident.
Arrested were 18-year-old Dylan Byrum of Twain Harte and an unidentified 16-year-old juvenile. The Sheriff’s Office reports that stolen property found at the scene was also linked to a second burglary in the area. The 16-year-old was turned over to the probation department and Byrum was booked into county jail on $50,000 bail. Yesterday Byrum was released from custody after posting bail. An investigation is ongoing.
