A Winter Storm Warning for both the Mother Lode and the Sierra Nevada remains in effect until 4 AM Friday (Christmas morning).
According to the National Weather Service, snow levels may fall as low as 2000 feet.
Total snow accumulations will range from three to seven inches above 2500 feet. Eight to eighteen inches of snow is likely above 4500 feet.
Snow-covered and slippery roads with significant travel delays and chain controls should be expected. Driving conditions normally seen only in the mountains will occur at much lower elevations. Motorists are urged to plan accordingly.
A Winter Storm Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
