Gun Sales On The Rise In California

Despite having some of the tougher gun laws in the country, gun sales have been on the rise in California.

According to a report by the San Francisco Chronicle, California Department of Justice records show that gun sales doubled between 2010 to 2014, when the state had nearly 500,000 gun transactions. Some of the spike is attributed to fears that more gun control legislation could be on the horizon, which would make it harder to purchase firearms in the future.

Some of the tougher gun laws specific to California include a background check and waiting period for firearm purchases, and a prohibition on sales to people convicted of assault or battery.

In addition, there will be new gun laws going into effect on January 1st. They include AB 104 that will allow family members to file a restraining order if they feel a relative is at risk of committing violence and SB 707 that will expand the “Gun Free School Zone Act of 1995” to include conceal and carry permit holders.
