Gusty northerly winds have developed over Northern California this morning as a system passes to our northeast. The winds, combined with low relative humidity values, are resulting in critical fire weather conditions.
The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the Northern San Joaquin Valley below 1,000 feet, until 8 PM tonight (Friday). Additionally, a Wind Advisory is in effect for the Northern San Joaquin Valley until 5 PM this afternoon (Friday).
The strongest winds are expected from early this morning into the afternoon.
Winds of fifteen to thirty mph are likely, with gusts ranging from fifty to sixty mph.
Minimum humidities of five to twelve percent are forecast during the afternoon
These winds combined with low relative humidity values are resulting in critical fire weather conditions. Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.
The Wind Advisory issued for the western slope of the Northern Sierra Nevada will continue until 11 AM this morning (Friday).
North to northeast winds range from twenty to thirty-five mph, with gusts ranging from fifty to sixty mph.
The gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Gusty winds can impact high profile vehicles. Use extra caution when driving.
Winds will gradually subside this evening. While the winds will be lighter on Saturday, the afternoon humidity values will remain low in the single digits or teens.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
