Sonora Man Found Dead By Creek

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Department is investigating how a body of a 40-year-old Sonora man ended up behind a business off Mono Way.

Sheriff’s officials say a citizen reported spotting a dead man near Sullivan Creek behind the former Mother Lode Motors in Sonora Tuesday around noon.  Sheriff’s spokesperson Andrea Benson says that detectives have identified the man as Garland Williams.  Sgt. Benson indicates, “At this time there is no foul play suspected. This is an open investigation and the Sheriff’s Office is awaiting autopsy and toxicology reports for cause of death. He had medication on him. That is why they are waiting for the reports to see if maybe he ingested anything that may have caused his death.”

Detectives are looking into whether he was staying or living in the area or just walking along the creek.  Sheriff’s officials are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to contact detectives at 209-694-2900.
