Update: Heat Advisory This Week

The Heat Advisory issued for the Northern San Joaquin Valley will expire at 11 PM (tonight) Wednesday. High temperatures in the Central Valley today will range from 100 to 105 degrees.

The National Weather Service has also issued a Heat Advisory for the Mariposa County foothills now through 11 PM tonight (Wednesday). The maximum temperatures will range from 98 to 103 degrees.

The hot temperatures will result in widespread moderate to locally high heat risk. Heat-related illnesses will be possible for people who are new to the area and those in heat sensitive groups, such as the elderly, young children, and people with chronic aliments.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. If you work or spend time outside, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
