Committee Kills Berryhill’s Flexible Workweek Bill

Sacramento, CA — Mother Lode Senator Tom Berryhill says a flexible workweek bill that he introduced has failed to pass a key committee hurdle.

The District 8 Republican says Senate Bill 368 would have created more flexibility for California employers to implement a 40 hour work week comprised of four 10-hour-days, or three 12 hour days. He says the current state system makes it difficult for employers to do so.

Berryhill adds, “In today’s society, with all the commuters we have out there, a lot of people want to spend a little more time with their families.”

The “California Workplace Flexibility Act” was voted down in the Senate Labor and Industrial Relations Committee on a party-line vote, with Democrats opposed and Republicans in favor.

In addition, Berryhill claims the bill would have allowed California businesses to be more competitive, as several neighboring states already have laws on the books similar to SB 368.
