Sonora, CA – The Tuolumne Sheriff’s Department is opening its doors, allowing the public access to its crime fighting techniques.
Residents can attend the Sheriff’s Office Citizen’s Academy from Feb. 18 through May 21. It is a 12-week program aimed at increasing communication, understanding and building trust between the department and the community. The goal, according to the academy’s promotional flyer, is “to remove that veil of mystery that often surrounds law enforcement and to address many of the common myths and misconceptions about police work.” The deadline to apply for the academy is Feb. 12. Click here for an application, which aspiring participants must fill out and either mail or drop off to the station, which is located at 28 N. Lower Sunset Drive in Sonora.
