Update: Comcast Outage Impacts Mother Lode

Update at 8:20 p.m.: Comcast reports the cause of the outage is still not known, but the traffic has been rerouted to a spare fiber-optic cable to restore service in the area.

Original Post at 7:41 p.m.: Sonora, CA — A Comcast fiber links outage left some businesses in the Mother Lode without internet service for about four hours.

Comcast says that customers, including Clarke Broadcasting’s myMotherlode.com, who use its Metro Ethernet or Enterprise service, were affected by the outage. Around 7:30 p.m., the internet was back up. Earlier in the evening, Comcast had told customers that crews were in Sonora and Tuolumne looking for a cut fiber-optic line, which could have been accidentally cut or done deliberately. The company has given no update as to what crews found.

There was no interruption to regular phone or home cable services. Additionally, law enforcement officials confirmed the outage did not disrupt 911 services. However, Sonora Regional Medical Center officials reported outlying clinics on Forest Road, Greenley Road, Angels Camp, Indian Rock and the Patient Financial Services branch were impacted.

The outage began after 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
