San Andreas, CA — During this sunny weather stretch hundreds of Butte Fire recovery workers toiling within the burn footprint are making rapid progress.
Calaveras County officials today shared that burn debris removal is now more than 80 percent finished, and weather-permitting, will shortly complete. Currently 29 crews are in the field. As of today, 659 of the participating properties are reported to be cleared of debris and erosion control is complete on 389. Personnel continue to work a seven-day a week schedule, weather allowing, with an eye on finally wrapping up by sometime in late March.
As the debris removal program draws to a close, so do opportunities to enroll, according to spokesperson Sharon Torrence, who signals that this is likely the “last call” for property owners who have still not signed up for assistance to request it. The county building department is also suggesting for the sake of expedience that residents planning to rebuild should submit plans for review and get their building permit applications in before the end of the debris removal process.
