Council To Discuss Road Closures And Property Purchase

Sonora, CA — Tonight the Sonora City Council will vote on road closures for a few upcoming special events.

The city will vote to temporarily close a stretch of Highway 49, and some side streets, during the Mother Lode Roundup weekend, May 7-8. In addition, Sonora Regional Medical Center is hoping for the temporary closure of Greenley Road, from Guzzi Lane to Sanguinetti Road, for the planned May 1st Gran Fondo Bike Ride. Also, there is a request to close School Street on April 11th for the Every 15-minute Drunk Driver Awareness Program.

Prior to tonight’s 5pm meeting, the council will meet in closed session to discuss property negotiations related to the purchase of the Corner Gas property at the intersection of Mono Way and Greenley Road. City documents note that up for discussion is the “price and terms of payment.” The city needs to acquire the property in order to move forward with plans to expand the Mono Way-Greenley Road intersection.
