Support For Continuing Water Regulation

A recent informal MyMotherLode poll asked “Should mandatory water conservation end for Northern CA?” The majority were against it ending with 67 percent of the votes. Only 25 percent were in favor, 4 percent didn’t know and 4 percent thought all of California should not be under mantadory water conservation.

As reported here, the State Water Board has reduced mandatory conservation for Calaveras County Water District (CCWD), Tuolumne Utilities District (TUD) and Groveland Community Services District (GCSD).

The former standard of 16 percent compared to 2013’s usage has been reduced to 13 percent for CCWD, effective March 1 for reporting purposes. TUD and GCSD both went down from 24 percent to 21 percent.

The State Water Board is seeking input on how it might modify current emergency conservation regulations at a workshop on April 20 in Sacramento. The workshop notice is here. Written comments must be received by April 14, submitted to Jeanine Townsend, clerk to the board, at commentletters@waterboards.ca.gov or by fax at (916) 341-5620. Emails should include the subject line “Comment Letter – Urban Water Conservation Workshop.” The Water Board is expected to issue a final decision May 3.
