Sonora, CA — As we head into the Mother’s Day weekend, the Mother Lode Roundup kicks into high gear.
Wednesday, May 4 is the Band Review at Summerville High School stadium as Sonora High School’s field is under construction. The event begins at 6 p.m. and runs until 8 p.m. Let the bidding begin, as Thursday night is the Calcutta at the Sheriff’s Posse Grounds on Rawhide Road in Jamestown. Several teams compete to get the highest bid. Posse member Ty Wivell explains, “Each team will be auctioned off to the highest bidder and 25% of the money raised goes for the Posses’ scholarship program. We have scholarship programs with all the local schools.”
The Calcutta kicks off at 6 p.m. and is free to the public. Then on Saturday is the big parade and the rodeo begins.
