Forest To Burn 100 Acres A Day

Stanislaus National Forest, CA –More smoke will be visible over the Stanislaus National Forest as another prescribed burn could be sparked on Monday, June 6, weather permitting.

As reported Thursday, the U.S. Forest Service is already working on two other burns on the Groveland and Mi-Wok Ranger districts totaling 686 acres. This latest fire will be ignited on the Summit Ranger District for the Dry Meadow Underburn located northwest of Beardsley Lake and adjacent to Forest Service Roads 5N02 (Beardsley Road), 5N22, and 4N66. The main objectives will be to reduce fuels to lessen the threat of damaging wildfires and maintain fuel breaks.

A total of 1,186 acres will be burned in increments of nearly 100 acres daily with the area divided into 10 units, ranging in size from 30 to 171 acres. Residents and motorists may see smoke in the area of the Highway 108 corridor (FS Roads 5N02, 5N22, and 4N66) and along the canyons during the night and early morning.

Of note, as reported here, on June 7 chip sealing work for the Beardsley Road Project east of Strawberry will begin and run through the 16th.  Road striping will start the week of the 27th. Motorists could face delays.
