Berryhill’s Flexible Work Week Bill Denied

Sacramento, CA — Mother Lode Republican Senator Tom Berryhill’s latest effort to pass a flexible work week bill has failed a committee test.

Berryhill says the bill would have eliminated hurdles that make it difficult for employees to work four 10-hour-days or three 12-hour-days.

Berryhill reports that SB 985 failed to gain enough support in the Senate Labor and Industrial Relations Committee this week. The Senator says, “What we are trying to do here is give employees, who are now the sole focus of this bill, more control over how, when and where their work gets done.”

Berryhill reports that Republicans in the committee voted in favor of the bill while Democrats were opposed.  It would have enacted a five-year pilot program giving employers and employees the option of working out a mutually agreed upon flex week schedule. Berryhill has introduced similar legislation during past sessions which also failed to gain support.
