Update at 5:45 p.m.: The CHP reports a 73-year-old Soulsbyville man died after his specially constructed 1999 motorcycle crashed on Highway 108. His name is not being released pending notification of his family. The accident happened around 1:45 p.m. Saturday west of Herring Creek Lane in the Strawberry area. The man was driving westbound on the highway going at an unknown speed, according to the CHP, when for unknown reasons he went off the roadway onto the dirt shoulder. He lost control of the bike and it smashed into a metal paddle marker, then hit a large tree and overturned down an embankment. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The CHP reports that drug impairment may be a factor in the crash.
Update at 2:15 p.m.: The CHP confirms a fatality in the solo-motorcycle crash on Highway 108 one mile west of the Strawberry near George Drive. The person’s name is not being released pending next of kin notification. The CHP reports the bike was westbound on the highway when it went off the roadway and smashed into the mountain side. The accident happened around 1:45 p.m. Saturday.
Original post at 2:02 p.m.: Strawberry, CA –Emergency crews are on the scene of a solo-motorcycle crash on Highway 108.
The CHP reports possible serious injuries as the bike smashed into the mountain side. The accident is in the Strawberry area. Motorists will want to use caution in the area and slow down as there is plenty of activity along the roadway. An air ambulance has been called to the scene. We will bring you more details as soon as they come into the new center.
