Angels Camp, CA — The CHP has released new details about a double fatal crash that occurred Thursday afternoon on Murphys Grade Road.
The CHP reports 29-year-old Christopher Dunivant of Angels Camp drifted his 1994 Chrysler into the opposing traffic lane and hit a 2016 Nissan, head-on. The other vehicle was driven by 75-year-old Charles Gates of Sonora. Dunivant, and a passenger in the vehicle of Gates, 79-year-old Ellen Carlson of Sonora, were pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained.
Gates and two other of his passengers, 73-year-old Judith Gates and 53-year-old Randy Gates, were transported to Sonora Regional Medical Center to treat “moderate” injuries.
CHP Officer Rebecca Myers notes, “It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were a factor in this collision and it still remains under investigation. If anyone witnessed the collision, we’re asking them to contact the San Andreas CHP Office at 754-3541.”
There was light rain falling at the time of the collision which created slippery conditions. The crash happened at 3:09pm, just east of Fairview Park Court.
