Update: Rockslide Blocking Road Removed In Yosemite

Update at 6:30 p.m.: Yosemite National Park officials report El Portal Road (Highway 140) will reopen at 7 p.m. Tuesday as crews have cleared a rockslide.  Crews have been working throughout the day to blast the fallen rocks and remove debris. Park officials urge visitors to use caution when driving in the rock fall area.

Original post at 6:09 a.m.: Yosemite, CA — There is a significant rockslide that has closed El Portal Road (Highway 140) in Yosemite National Park.

Several large boulders are in the roadway, and a park geologist was dispatched to the scene late yesterday afternoon to assess the situation. It is not immediately clear when the road will reopen. The complete closure is from the park entrance to the Cascades picnic area. Alternate routes into the park include Highway 120 and Highway 41. We’ll pass along more details when they become available.
