Update: Deceased Person Found Off Mono Way ID’d

Update at 6:45 p.m.: Tuolumne County Sheriff’s officials have identified the man found deceased late Tuesday afternoon in Sonora. He is 55-year-old Ernest Richard, whose body was found near Elsey’s Pond off Mono Way near the Sonora Dodge dealership.  Sheriff’s officials says his next of kin has been notified.

Original post at 9:56 a.m.: Sonora, CA — Late Tuesday afternoon the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office located a deceased person near Elsey’s Pond off Mono Way near the Sonora Dodge dealership.

Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, Sgt. Andrea Benson, reports, “A friend of the deceased said he tried to wake him but received no response. Sheriff’s deputies located a deceased homeless man at the camp. No signs of foul play were found. The man had a hospital band on his wrist which helped to identify him.”

The man’s identity is not being released as family members still need to be notified. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. The body was located at 5pm.
