Veterans Day Events And Closures

Friday is Veterans Day and there are many events honoring Veterans in the Mother Lode. Tomorrow, Thursday November 10, there is a birthday breakfast at the Sonora Elks Lodge for the U.S. Marine Corps 241st Birthday. All marines, their families and friends are welcome, as well as veterans of all branches of the military, details are here.

On Friday there will be a Veterans Day Salute at the Columbia Public Cemetery by the Columbia Foot Dragoons and Grenadine Bells. The Ebbetts Pass Veterans Memorial District also invites everyone to Murphys to honor and salute all US military veterans at a special ceremony at their creekside memorial site. The event features the Calaveras Community band, and student speakers reading their original essays paying tribute to veterans and the branches of the military. In Groveland at the Divide Cemetery will be another ceremony.

Railtown State Historic Park will honor Veterans on Veterans Day as detailed here. Veteran and active military personnel are encouraged to wear their uniforms with pride while enjoying a special excursion train ride behind diesel locomotive No. 1265, a 1952 former Army diesel which last served at the Riverbank Army Ammunition Plant. The special diesel locomotive will be operated by a number of crew members who are also military veterans.

Ruby Parlor of the Native Daughters if the Golden West is holding it’s annual Veterans Day Dinner on Friday. All proceeds go to veterans services, details are here.
