Cottonwood Road Closed Due To Damage

Tuolumne County, CA — Stanislaus National Forest officials have closed the gates on Cottonwood Road between the intersections of Thompson Meadow and Reed Creek.

Forest Service Spokesperson Diana Fredlund says Cottonwood Road continues to receive additional damage stemming from the wet weather. She adds, “It has just been taking a real beating. We found that it has had numerous landslides, and pavement failures, so that the road is actually cracking and is dropping. For safety purposes, the gates have been closed, and we’re telling people not to go into the area.”

Fredlund says it remains unclear when Cottonwood Road will re-open. She adds that it is difficult to estimate the dollar damage to the roadway because it has been continuing to worsen with each storm, and more wet weather is in the horizon.
