Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Supervisors have selected five people to be part of a committee that will review options, and make recommendations, about marijuana rules and regulations.
We reported in January that the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors voted to outlaw the commercial sale of marijuana for recreational use following the passage of Proposition 64, but vowed to create a working group that would develop a more long-term solution.
This week the Board of Supervisors finalized the list of five committee members. They include District Three Supervisor Evan Royce, District One Supervisor Sherri Brennan, Planning Commissioner Jerry Baker, local marijuana cultivator Kira Tucker and former CHP Lt. Commander Scott Clamp.
District Three Supervisor Royce stated, “This is something that is kind of a new frontier for us, and it is going to be a challenging process that is going to take a lot of resources and time from our staff. We’re going to invest that so that we get a product in the end that allows people to have the freedom to do what is legal in California, but we’re going to do that in a way that mitigates the risks and concerns of the rest of the community.”
Despite the county outlawing commercial marijuana activities this past January, Proposition 64 still allows all Californian’s the right to grow and possess up to six marijuana plants.
The first Marijuana Working Group committee meeting is scheduled for April 12 at 1:30pm in the Board of Supervisors meeting room in downtown Sonora. It is open to the public.
