Sonora, CA — Physician guest chefs trading scalpels for spatulas recently helped raise awareness and funds for hospice support.
The results now in, indicate that this year’s Sonora Regional Medical Center’s Hospice of the Sierra collected over $15,000 at its 6th Annual “Dinner with a Doc” benefit. Its proceeds go towards assisting patients who cannot afford hospice services. Hosted Feb. 25 at Black Oak Casino Resort, it featured a cooking demonstration by guest chefs and local physicians Jeremiah Fillo, MD, and Maryal Concepcion, MD. Among other attractions were a silent auction and raffle.
Kathrina McRee, who serves as a “director of physician talent acquisition,” states the event’s ongoing success is directly linked to generous community and sponsor support. She adds that special kudos are in order for Sierra Emergency Medical Group; Dr. Fred Shield and Susan Shield; Berkshire Hathaway Home Services; Roger and Judy Haughton; Ron and Anne Jacobs; along with Black Oak Casino Resort and Adventist Health.
Hospice of the Sierra treats the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients who are no longer receiving curative treatment by providing support and comfort care in their homes or home-like settings. This support is implemented working with a healthcare professionals team as well as volunteers and patients’ own family members, enabling the patients themselves to make the most of the time they have.
