Sonora, CA – Beginning Monday, March 20, highway improvements under the helm of a Caltrans contractor will slow traffic in several spots through June.
Caltrans officials say the work, which focuses on upgrading guardrails and making other improvements on 16 miles along Highways 49/108 will also include increasing the truck-turning radius at Highway 108 and South Washington Street.
They add that most of the scheduling is being arranged so that crews are working in the overnight hours, Sunday through Thursday nights, from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. Dirt & Aggregate Interchange Inc. of Fairview, Oregon, which had the qualifying bid of $1.06 million, is the project contractor.
Work on north and southbound Highway 49/108 will take place along a five-mile stretch from near Harvard Mine Road to Columbia Way. Guardrails at various locations on east and westbound Highway 108 will be upgraded along an 11-mile section from the 108/49 junction to Heliport Road.
Too, a section of guardrail at the northeast corner of the Highway 108/South Washington Street intersection, which has been frequently damaged by westbound big rigs turning north onto South Washington will be relocated in conformance with the Surface Transportation Assistance Act.
Motorists should anticipate ten-minute delays and one-way traffic controls in place within the planned work zones when they are in place.
