The Murphys Irish Day Parade Hits A Milestone

Murphys, CA — Leprechauns will take over Murphys downtown this Saturday and celebrate a quarter century old tradition for the town.

A sea of green will wash over the streets for the 25th Annual Murphys Irish Day. The Celtic heritage event kicks off with a pancake breakfast with all the proceeds going to various local and global charities supported by the First Congregational Church. Then the main event begins at 11 a.m. when the sounds of bagpipes fill the air, while floats, horses, dogs, cub scouts and even leprechauns parade down Main Street. This year’s Grand Marshal is King McPherson of Murphys whose 100th birthday is on St. Patrick’s Day. There will also be more than 130 vendors, live music and entertainment and plenty to eat and drink. Another reason for revelers to flock to the parade is the chance to win a trip to Ireland.

Main Street will be closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. with no parking on Main, Church, Algiers, Scott, and Jones streets along with Sheep Ranch and Six Mile roads. Organizers say motorists should use Highway 4 to get to the event and not Murphys Grade Road. Parking is free and shuttle service is available at Ironstone Vineyards on Six Mile Road. Additionally, free parking will be available at the Black Bart Playhouse parking lot on Algiers Street after the parade. Handicap parking will be located in the Arbors parking lot at Jones and Scott streets.
