Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors has scheduled more discussion next week related to the question of whether to endorse the State of Jefferson movement.
The Supervisors heard presentations earlier this month from representatives of both the Jefferson movement and the Keep it California group. Click here to view the earlier story.
Towards the end of the meeting, staff was directed to conduct a fiscal analysis of such a move, and to investigate the pros and cons when it comes to the impact on county services. Representatives from the State of Jefferson group notified the county after this month’s meeting that they would like to provide further feedback to clarify their stance on the county’s follow through, so the item has been placed on this coming Tuesday’s agenda.
The Supervisors will eventually decide whether to support the movement, oppose it, place the item before voters, or take no position. To create a 51st state, it would also need to be approved by the California Legislature and US Congress.
