Jamestown, CA — The CHP reports that an Oakdale man was arrested after slamming into the back of a stopped vehicle, and then leaving the accident scene.
The crash happened Wednesday at 9:55pm on Highway 108 near Bell Mooney Road. Caltrans was conducting some work on Highway 108 and 22-year-old Ian Stogdell reportedly did not see a 2005 Toyota come to a stop in front of him. He drove his 1995 Toyota into the back of the other vehicle that was being driven by Patricia Aguiar of Sonora. Stogdell’s collision caused extensive front end damage to his vehicle, and a 1-2 ft. intrusion into the rear of the other car. Instead of waiting for officers, Stogdell decided to turn his vehicle around and flee from the scene. He then stopped his vehicle on Montezuma Road, approximately two miles from the collision, and fled on foot. Nearly an hour later, he was located by law enforcement officials in a field near his parked vehicle. He had major injuries, including a fractured arm and abrasions. Stogdell was transported to Sonora Regional Medical Center to receive medical care.
CHP Officer Faustino Pulido adds, “Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in this collision.”
The victim Aguiar was not injured in the crash, but an 11-year-old passenger in her vehicle had a complaint of pain to her neck. The juvenile did not require immediate medical attention.
